Mr. Green Casino Review

Mr. Green is an online casino and sportsbook that focuses on the UK and European gaming markets. It is fronted by an enigmatic mascot wearing a green suit and a green bowler hat. You’ve probably seen him yourself, as the brand has been advertised extensively throughout the web and has also featured on TV adverts in the United Kingdom.

With numerous awards under its belt and recognition from countless industry professionals, Mr. Green clearly has a lot to offer players. In this review, I’ll talk about some of my own experiences with Mr. Green, highlighting the pros and the cons, ranging from its impressive array of games and bonuses to its questionable customer support and procedures.

There is a lot to pick apart here, so let’s begin.

Basics

In many ways, Mr. Green is a polarising casino for me. I have had some good times here but I have also found myself getting very frustrated with the brand. I had many similar issues with Betfair, and both of my negative experiences with the brand occurred several years ago. The difference is that Betfair cleaned up its act, and I don’t get the same impression with Mr. Green.

Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Green is a legitimate casino and sportsbook that has a lot to offer its players. If that wasn’t true, it would not have a good rating and it wouldn’t even be on this list. However, it’s far from perfect and it pales in comparison to some of the other UK-focused sites that I have covered in the past.

Firstly, let’s get some of the basics out of the way.

Mr. Green seems to have three different websites. One of these is targeted toward players in the United Kingdom. Another is focused on players from Sweden, and the biggest targets players in other European countries. It works with regulators from the UK Gambling Commission, Malta Gaming Authority, and the Swedish Gambling Authorities to cover all of these regions and ensure all regulatory boxes are ticked.

Most of this review was conducted using the UK version of the Mr. Green website but the information contained underneath this review (concerning software developers, games, and more) covers the UK and EU sites.

Software and Games

Mr. Green has an attractive design. I’m not a big fan of the colour green, but it certainly beats the all-black headache-inducing aesthetic that many sites seem to adopt these days. It’s also a colour scheme that has been used effectively by several other major UK gambling brands, including Paddy Power.

The only real issue that I have with the Mr. Green site, and specifically the UK site, is that it’s 100% mobile-focused. It uses a mobile menu (also known as a “hamburger menu), which means that all of the sections are hidden until you click the menu.

I get why it’s there, and I’m sure that many mobile players love it, but I don’t. Mobile menus should be reserved for mobile sites, as there’s plenty of space on desktop to include all of those links.

As for the games, these are supplied by an array of providers. The UK casino is much more limited in this area, with NetEnt, Microgaming, Yggdrasil Gaming, and Evolution Gaming providing the bulk of the titles, but the EU site also throws titles from Playtech into the mix.

Personally, any site that combines games from Blueprint (The Goonies, Top Cat, Fishin’ Frenzy), Playtech (Age of the Gods, Kingdoms Rise) and Yggdrasil Gaming (Vikings Go Berzerk) is a winner for me. Betsoft games are available on the EU site as well, but as is the case with many UK casinos, they are missing on Mr. Green UK.

It is a very good selection on the whole and one that can be enjoyed on mobile and desktop. There are several jackpots to choose from and the stake range is sizeable as well.

I compared the aesthetic of Mr. Green to Paddy Power at the top of this review and those similarities are visible in the sports book, as well. It’s not quite the same, and Paddy Power is bigger and much more varied, but it’s very similar and just as accessible.

As you would expect, the Mr. Green sportsbook is devoted to football more than any other sport, but there are still dozens of other top sports and events to choose from, including esports, boxing, snooker, and combat sports.

UK-players seem to be overlooked when it comes to Welcome Bonuses at Mr. Green. The biggest offer I could see was a reward of 10 Free Spins for players who spent £10 playing the Hells Kitchen slot, and this didn’t even seem to be exclusive to first-time depositors. It’s more than a little disappointing, but there’s a good chance that they are just offering UK bonuses through affiliates and not directly, which is true for many other sites.

Things are a little clearer when you join from an accepted region in Europe. You can choose from a casino bonus or a sports betting bonus. The former requires a minimum deposit equivalent to £20 and promises to match your deposit up to a total of £100. In other words, if you deposit £100 then you will get a total of £200 to play with.

In addition, you will get 100 Free Spins, plus a batch of 20 Free Spins every day for 5 days.

In total, that’s up to £100 and 200 Free Spins, the latter of which can be used on some of the best slot machines on the web. The casino bonus has a fairly modest wagering requirement of 35x, and some game restrictions may also apply.

Mr. Green has a good selection of payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, web wallets, and instant payment solutions. In the UK, you can use PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, and a few other common methods. Outside of the United Kingdom, you can also take your pick from methods like Trustly and Interac.

Cryptocurrencies are not accepted here, unfortunately, but it’s still a good variety and one that will appeal to most players.

Despite all of these great payments, and the fact that Mr. Green doesn’t have a withdrawal limit, there is one major disappointment: the withdrawal speed. Your withdrawals will sit in your account for between 1 and 3 days, before eventually being processed. It’s a nuisance, because if you’re using bank transfers or debit cards, it could be 10 days before you see your winnings.

On the plus side, the verification process is very quick. In fact, other sites could learn a lot from Mr. Green in this department. There are a lot of Bitcoin-friendly online casinos out there that skip this process altogether but then you have the sites that insist on everything except for a contract signed in blood. They drag the process on for several days and leave you frustrated.

The fact that sites like Mr. Green are able to finalise this process so quickly is proof that it doesn’t need to take more than a few hours, let alone a few days.

User Reviews

A lot of the Mr. Green user reviews are positive, and they highlight the site’s many great games and accessibility options. Of the negative reviews, the majority complain about the customer support, and I know exactly where they are coming from.

They’re not bad, and they really do try their best, but it often falls flat. The Live Chat responses and emails can feel a little robotic. The conversations are often prolonged because they don’t understand or have been told to focus on copy/pasted responses.

It is a problem I have highlighted in the past and one that I have complained about extensively, including with my BetVictor Casino review. You’ll get there eventually, but you may need to be very patient.

There are lots of positives here, though, including the fact that Mr. Green responds to all negative reviews left on third-party websites and it does so in a very polite and friendly way. I always like to see this and instantly think better of the sites that do it.

Although Mr. Green has its problems, these are ultimately dwarfed by the site’s many positives, including the generous bonuses and the many accepted payment methods. The problem is, that only really applies to players outside of the United Kingdom.

The UK-focused site seems to be a little more lacking and it’s clear that Mr. Green focuses more on its sports book when it comes to UK players. You can still play lots of games and use a few good payment options, but the non-UK site seems a little more fleshed out and generous.
