Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto expressed his gratitude towards Bitcoin users for their donations and support in a YouTube video on Tuesday.
In the three-minute video, Nakamoto stands alongside entrepreneur Andreas Antonopoulos, who helped to organize the fundraiser and deliver the donations.
The fundraiser was launched to apologize for the trouble caused by the surge of media attention after Newsweek reporter Leah Goodman claimed to have found the creator of Bitcoin. Felix Salmon described the Newsweek cover story as “what is probably the biggest and most embarrassing blunder in [the magazine’s] 81-year history.”
The fundraiser has received over 49 BTC in donations so far, roughly equivalent to $23,000.
In the video, he reaffirmed his denial of the story, stating:
“I am not Satoshi Nakamoto as portrayed as the creator. And of course, if I was the creator, I would never use my real name. From that point of view, I’m sure you guys would know Satoshi Nakamoto is not me. But Leah thinks so. And Newsweek thinks so. But it’s not true.”
Nakamoto also thanked the Bitcoin community for its support throughout his ordeal:
“I have received the Bitcoin account from Andreas and I’m very thankful for you, all these people, in US, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, who supported me throughout.”
Nakamoto hired a lawyer earlier this year and released a statement saying that he did not play any role in the Bitcoin’s development. It is still uncertain whether or not he will file a lawsuit against Newsweek.
